WASHINGTON – U. S. District Judge William W. Stuyvesant will temporarily reverse a previous decision of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which allowed the use of the prescription drug Viagra for erectile dysfunction, but not for impotence.
The Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra in 1998 for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Since then, many men have sought FDA approval to use Viagra for impotence. In recent years, however, the approval of Viagra has been delayed in several ways due to safety concerns.
The FDA issued a warning letter on February 28, 1998, in which it stated that Viagra was associated with “significantly higher rates of adverse events, including erectile dysfunction, in patients taking the drug and in men taking nitrates for heart disease, angina pectoris, and other cardiovascular conditions.”
The agency also issued a warning letter on March 10, 1999, in which it stated that Viagra “is not effective for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in all patients.”
In a statement, FDA Commissioner Lester Crawford said that “the Food and Drug Administration has acted responsibly in promoting the use of Viagra for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.”
In a follow-up statement, FDA Commissioner Susan Hutchinson said that “the agency will continue to follow the recommendations of this advisory committee and will continue to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Viagra in patients with erectile dysfunction.”
FDA officials declined to provide any specific information about the FDA’s actions.
Viagra for Erectile Dysfunction
Viagra, a prescription drug, is approved for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction, which affects men of all ages, can be a difficult problem for those seeking effective treatment. Erectile dysfunction is defined as the inability to achieve or maintain an erection that is firm enough for sexual intercourse.
Viagra works by increasing blood flow to the penis. This increased blood flow leads to an erection. Erectile dysfunction is most commonly seen in men who take nitrates for heart disease, angina, or other cardiovascular conditions. Viagra, containing sildenafil, works by relaxing the muscles in the walls of blood vessels, allowing more blood to flow into the penis and causing an erection. This allows for a more spontaneous and pleasurable sexual activity.
There are two types of erectile dysfunction. Erectile dysfunction is caused by insufficient blood flow to the penis. This can lead to impotence or sexual arousal problems. Erectile dysfunction is a result of decreased blood flow to the penis, which causes the penis to enlarge. ED can also be caused by other factors, including a physical problem such as high blood pressure or diabetes.
Although it is important to remember that ED can be caused by a variety of factors, most cases are mild and temporary. The most common causes of sexual dysfunction in men are lifestyle factors, such as diet, exercise, stress, and anxiety.
Many men will experience problems occasionally in their sex lives.
Lifestyle Factors
Erectile dysfunction is most commonly caused by stress, anxiety, depression, alcohol use, smoking, or other factors that cause sexual arousal. Other factors, such as diabetes, or certain cancers, may also contribute to the problem.
Other health problems that can occur when a man is not able to achieve an erection include:
It is important to note that men with erectile dysfunction may be able to achieve an erection when they are sexually stimulated. The effects of sexual arousal do not typically last for more than an hour. Once an erection has occurred, sexual stimulation does not occur. However, sexual arousal does occur when a man is aroused.
There are a number of factors that can cause sexual arousal that are not listed in the medication guide and should be taken into account when prescribing Viagra.
